Every month, IAJW members are invited to participate in our monthly Writing Alone Together circle where individuals gather via Zoom to join a facilitated writing circle where we write freely, read aloud, listen deeply and bear witness.  These are the four practices commonly referred to as WAT based on a book I co-authored entitled Writing Alone Together.

Denise Simmons, an IAJW member, is a regular participant in our writing circle.  She recently wrote the following poem based on her experience of coming together to write in our circle.  May you be inspired by her writing, words and heart!

Woman Writing in Circle

I found my woman in you

When we come together writing sacred truth

I found my woman in you

Letting what needs to be heard

Listening, honouring space in every word

I found my woman in you

Prompted to express realness

With gratitude at its best

I found my woman in you

Picking up a pen caressing the page

Writing words wise sage

I found my woman in you

Lifting the heart over to LOVE undying faith

There is no other very special place

I found my woman in you

Writing from the heart, every word, every start

Every piece, morsel and all discovered parts

I found my woman in you

Space and time to be with all that wants to unfold

A dancing duo writing immensely brimming pure gold

I found my woman in you

Grace and pace, there’s more to say on this page

Within this circle is where I’ll stay

I found my woman in you

You’ve taken me to the depths of my soul

Standing by me, full heart and hand hold

I found my woman in you

A friend, partner, soulmate, hearts so grand

Together we write across a vast universal land

I found my woman in you

Free birds flocking together forever

In world to be told and discover

I found my woman in you

No matter where you are,

I’ll always be here for you

Woman writing in circle forever; real, fresh and new

I found my woman in you

To honour and cherish the journey we explore

Parts of me reflect through a human glass door

I found my woman in you

There’s always a new door, clear sight

Enter in, be held with love and light

I found my woman in you

Thank you for sharing, caring, all of you too

Creating woman’s writing circle, I sincerely say “I do”

I found my woman in you

Namaste with love, with heart to the woman in each and every one of you.
