Writing Home: A Whole Life Practice, a six-week writing circle with Mary Ann Moore

Would you like to learn about writing as a practice of self-compassion, creating a writing ceremony together?

Each weekly Writing Home Circle will have an intentional beginning and end so as to create a writing sanctuary with one another. You will have the support of other writers on their own writing path as well as the experience of a skilled facilitator.

You will explore aspects of your own story as you embark on a spiritual journey of writing as a self-nourishing, and sometimes physical, practice as a pathway to your own unique voice in the world.

“Writing Home has opened me up to a different way of writing. It taught me to let go, be vulnerable and write from the heart.” ~ Ginny Sargison

Benefits of the Writing Home circle

The Writing Home circle offers an interactive and enlightening experience along with supportive writing companions and a gifted facilitator.  Seekers of all spiritual paths will be encouraged by the creative journey that encompasses their own life story, awakening their own wisdom and creativity. Other benefits include:

  • A sacred space in which to let your stories find the page;
  • Witnesses to your creative journey;
  • An exploration of your relationship to silence and stillness;
  • Innovative writing invitations to start the flow;
  • Suggestions for creating a ceremony for your own journaling practice;
  • A vast array of references for reading and further inspiration;
  • Fresh insights from your version of your own story;
  • An integration of your own wisdom and all of who you are;
  • A building of confidence to take you into new, creative directions;
  • A creative boost and a reminder that your creativity makes a healthy impact on your life and on the world; and
  • The creation of your own spiritual practice that helps you wake up to your life.

This course can help you live your best life and feel honoured for who you are. Tap into your most authentic voice in this skillfully crafted Writing Home journey.

You will have an opportunity to write in community and share your writing when you feel comfortable doing so. Any comments provided by Mary Ann will be to encourage and support the writing of your stories from life.

Classes will be recorded and shared if you have to miss a Writing Home Circle.

“You may write alone but Mary Ann conveys community in a way that centres a sense of belonging. There is no pressure in Mary Ann’s approach, rather she offers generous invitations, lots of permission, and a deep honouring of each person’s unfolding process.” ~ Kate Burns

Weekly Writing Home Circle Themes

Week One: At the Threshold
The first chakra in the body offers “root support.” We’ll set off on a writing journey together, paying attention to the story presently unfolding in your life.

Week Two: The Longing for Home
The second chakra is the “dwelling place of the self.” One of the writing practice themes will be to explore “your pure nature.”

Week Three: The Sacred Call
The third chakra is the “city of Jewels.” The ideas explored will include “preparing the field.”

Week Four: Departure: Leaving Home to Find Home
The fourth chakra is known in Sanskrit as Anahata meaning “unstruck.” One of our writing practice themes will be about “getting lost.”

Week Five: The Pilgrim’s Way
The fifth chakra is “purification” and speaking your truth.

Week Six: Arrival: At Home in the Body & Bringing Back the Boon

The sixth chakra transcends the elements and physical senses. We’ll reflect on our six weeks together. The seventh chakra opens one to spiritual vibrations. The Sanskrit term is Sahasrara (thousandfold). Together, we will honour the theme of integration, knowing what you now know about yourself.

Note: You will receive an email a week before the writing circle starts that will include a chart of the weekly themes and everything you need to know to prepare for this interactive and enriching circle experience, as well as the Zoom link for accessing the weekly circles. Following a writing circle, there may be “hand-outs” for further reflection and writing on one’s own.

There is no prior writing experience required to benefit from the Writing Home Circle.

"The format and the personal contact gave me a creative outlet in my life that was mine alone. The material was engaging and inspiring. I loved the references. Writing Home motivated me to read the references, and beyond." ~ Carolyn Stuart

"Writing Home has opened me up to a different way of writing. It taught me to let go, be vulnerable and write from the heart." ~ Ginny Sargison

"I love the ritual, the sloughing off of the outside world and cloistering of one's self in that space and time. And the holding back of discussion to a simple echoing back of our fellow "circlers" writing – speaking the phrases that caught us off guard, sparked an inspiration, evoked the curl of a smile or a tiny tear ... completes the sacredness of our coming together to write about life." ~ Stephanie Clark

"I moved to Canada from The Netherlands and needed to find home again (or I wondered what I brought with me). As I wrote, following Writing Home, I found I brought myself. I like the suggestions for rituals. I now have a special place to write. Writing Home got me writing home!" ~ Titia Jetten
